This spring (yes, we have seasons here in Colorado and spring is the best one so far) a lovely pair of robins decided to nest on our porch pergola.

Here the robin sat for quite some time despite wind, rain and a Meatball running around the yard. Luckily for the robins, Meatball took the entire incubation period to realize he would find the birds if he just looked up. Three little baby robins hatched right on our pergola and the robin parents were always flying around bringing them a balanced diet of caterpillars and worms.

One day we had some really stiff wind around here – actually it was the day all the tornados kept popping up. Luckily, two of the birds had already learned to fly and had left the nest. We weren’t sure if they had flown away yet, but luckily my husband Phil is a genius and reached up to take this photo.

That day as I was weeding in the yard, I found one of the baby robins. At first I was completely afraid it had died, but it was alive and just a little stunned. It fluttered around the yard for a while under the watchful eye of its parents until finally making its escape. I love a happy ending!

So moving to Colorado has been an excellent decision. However, there have been a few tough moments. I am so happy that school is out for summer that I just had to do something to celebrate. I knew my friend Virginia was just the girl to help me out. She and her husband Mike are from Alabama and are one of many recent transplants to the Northern Colorado area. They are expecting a lovely baby girl come fall! Virginia is currently going to beauty school and is the top of her class. I knew she would be up for dying my hair pink.

Here is my hair:

So far, despite some strange looks at my local Target, I have had a very enthusiastic response to the pink. People I don’t even know come up and touch my hair telling me that it looks great. Virginia, you are amazing. If you are in need of Virginia’s hair cutting or coloring skills, just make a post and I am happy to send along the information.

Yay pink!

Living in a house that Phil and I own is freakin’ awesome. Living in a house that has a bathroom from 1919 is not freakin’ awesome. We are talking no storage. That is right. A bunch of wire shelves have been the storage in our bathroom since October when we moved in. That meant all of our lovely personal items were on display for anyone who felt the call of nature to spend some time examining.

Here is the pedestal sink: cool in the guest bath, not in the everyday bath. Also, note the strangely off center toilet. Why is it like that? I don’t know!

Here is what is on the other side of where the toilet, shower and sink are crammed together. Nothing. No shelves, cabinets, nada.

Lucky for me and my friends who feel the call of nature, I am married to Phil. And Phil is freakin’ awesome. Stay tuned for Our Bathroom: After. Coming soon.
