Last Saturday, Phil and I headed out to Severance, CO to see the work of Chris Wanner, my coworker from University Schools in Greeley. He has gotten together 1000 Monk Heads (shown above) that he has worked on making over the last 10 years. The monk character comes from his onotological comic series (books and ceramic tiles) called The Next Tao. Also, Chris and his wife Sonya are turning their home in Severance into a gallery space and artist residency. The monk heads were truly beautiful displayed on primarily in the first room of the gallery. They were powerful in quantity, creating a focused, meditative mood. Congratulations Chris!
The first Saturday in October, I got the chance to paint at Blue Sky Church. This is something that Phil and I got to do all the time when we lived in California at went to Revolution Church. It was very cool to publicly return to making art as an act of worship. Here is what I made:
